Clogged Sinks – Michael Roque

Clogged sinks
carry the mess of many meals.
Mashed peas, sharp eggshells,
acidic coffee grounds
molded into one
indistinguishable mush

Made to drain,
clogged basins panic
at the sputtering vibrations
of their own pipes.
The sound of water
rushing from faucet mouths
to flood them with sludge
meant for sewers.
Another day spilling over
onto mopped floors,
another prayer for Drano
ignored.

When taps close,
clogged sinks are stagnant pools
with filth afloat,
quietly choking,
suckling down the pain
poisoning their drains.
