It’s Up to You Now – Katie Frank

October 3, 2025

And then you realize
that’s just life
One day something happens
and you need to rewind it
but the TV’s off
and babies are screaming
or you need someone
in the guillotine
but you keep pointing
at the sky
at the falling asteroid
but all anyone sees
is a smiling coconut
and the pen in your hand
is actually
a balloon animal
No one will ever
punish your enemies
You won’t
rescue the princess
Even the heaps
of compliments
for your carefully placed
towers of balloon
animals will begin
to feel like nothing
You’ll realize
you’re doing nothing
It’s not that your enemies
won’t still be real, they will
but all you can do
is watch them die
