Puerto Rico in January – Cletus Crow

intrusive thoughts
falling through pools
of barbed wire
the cats are barking
outside you’re shadowed
with palm trees
and seagull genitalia
we slice coconuts
drink their hearts out
we’re blue eyed
that matters here

*

i don’t speak spanish
so at the reading
i listen to the flow
a dog decays beyond
the open door
everyone can smell it
but says nothing
like overt pda
the dog is uncomfortably
ignored
my poems are about death
they’re all i have

*

flesh is where it’s at
gored by your leaving
i drink piña colada
watch a black bird shoot
through blue ocean
when waves fold over
our ghosts touch
foam reminds us of cum
please let me bite
that sandy ass
it resembles
something breaded
greasy diabetic
worth the heart attack

*

let’s die
many years from now
in a nursing home
not in a plane
back to tennessee
where i’ve eaten squirrel
like a redneck
without his guitar
back to assault rifles
back to venison
and confederate statues
where i’ve been shot at
without elaboration
i survived the haters
thank god

*

i put the puerto rican
flag on my desk
like a fucking tourist
everyone asks
if i enjoyed myself
yes
it was great
i will return
if only i had a desk
if only i had coworkers
it’s cold as balls
i shovel snow today
