Spitfire – Catherine Spino

YOU DO IT AS PART OF THE DANCE

While you’re inside me making an earthquake
in a padded room, I barter my body with time
looking for deities in decks of cards.

How did we meet again? In between change and concrete
Kids finding condoms in school yards,
make them question where they come from

Visions of a shipwreck
The idea of being a bunch of parts
The truth is always ugly until it isn’t
The birds still chime when it rains

—-

HEAVEN HELP ME

Fuck me like I’m a quarry
prayer card in hand
Hips always hungry
I yearn like a rubber band

—-

YOUR MEAT CANNOT SAVE YOU

Remind me what it feels like
to be feral
A soft tongue licking
sharp points
I press my face to the wet tile
Teeth bared because that’s what beasts do
when they’re cornered
Don’t feel sorry for me
I always get what I want
