The Temporary Times – Fawzy Zablah
April 2, 2020
In the temporary times we will regain our baby fat stuffing our faces with hot dogs in our bunkers trying to avoid the bug.
In the temporary times we will meet via computer screens because our overlords have deemed intimacy deadly.
In the temporary times we will still consider giving our vote to the leaders who pee on our leg while telling us it’s raining.
In the temporary times we might, or might not, plan to burn it all down.
In the temporary times some will pick up a book instead of a remote control.
In the temporary times we’ll have overflowing nostalgia for the little brewery down the street where we used to go on Friday nights after work to get a round of tasty, cold ale.
In the temporary times we will transform into Michelin Star chefs while unveiling our vegan meatloaf on Instagram.
In the temporary times, we will have a side gig as food delivery for our elderly neighbors and our nickname shall be, “The Courier.”
In the temporary times we’ll cower every time we hear another ambulance wailing down the street.
In the temporary times we will appreciate music more, ‘specially double albums.
In the temporary times we will spread kindness like peanut butter on a slice of bread.
In the temporary times books will become our best friends and the stories they tell will be the mantras we repeat.
In the temporary times we’ll sit still on our broken futons with our apartment windows open listening to a boy on a skateboard trying to land an ollie again, and again, and again, until curfew starts and he has to rush home to his mother.
