TOWERS OF SILENCE – Binnaz Deniz Yildiz

My heart, temple of my soul: Golgotha

My limbs

One midnight, I sold the wounds of my soul to a wild beggar

(Heavy scent in a bottle—plastic pieces and the moon from madness)

My scab fragments… A stain on the gloved hand of bloody killers

In my maggot-ridden heart, I raised my children of beast-skin

That man… Carrying cholera in knife-handles, I am a forgotten prayer book suffocating paradise at the table

At night, a train crosses the two banks of my inside. My fears find an identity for themselves. And stepping out into the streets like a shadow, they hunt down those breathing their last breath under the bridge arches

HIDE… YOUR MOTHER DID NOT TURN ON THE LIGHT TONIGHT. With a toy piano under your arm, you cried out to God!

When I wake up, my NAKED FEMININITY flows from my wet lower body. My torso was created for the desolate.

-Birds are shot in the evenings, in the towers of silence. And alone I hear the flowing of my blood. Doors close

My eyes are covered in PAN’S LABYRINTH. A creature born from dreams embraces my neck

Everything mixes into the beating of my pulse like a mad cut. Darkness, darkness…

Birds are shot in the evenings in the towers of silence

And alone I hear the flowing of my blood / Doors close…

**In Zoroastrianism, Towers of Silence are traditional funerary structures where the bodies of the dead were exposed rather than buried, to avoid contaminating the earth, water, and fire.
