Witness Apocalypsis – Hannah Nelson

instead of trimming, i grew it long
and like my friends all dreamed of, it grew into the grass,
twirling through the blades
and slipping in the small spaces between the shafts and the dirt
until it could really say it was underground.

which means that when the world ended (like all my friends dreamed of)
i was left hanging with my hair stamped down into the earth,
watching as pieces of mountains floated beneath my feet
and down down into space. and i saw the oceans pour out
leaving me thirsty.
